My name is MaryAnne Talbott, and I've been designing with type for about as long as I've been able to read. I'm crazy about working with paper and ink; I'm lucky to have found work that lets me do what I love.

My professional life in newspapers began in 1987. I was very briefly a reporter, then a copy editor and page designer for about eight years. Most recently, I was a newspaper design director for almost nine years.

Daily deadlines can be insane, and the reading public is rightly unforgiving of errors. Every day, without fail, you have to be accurate and you have to be on time. So no matter what your job is at a newspaper, if you want to keep it you learn two things: how to work fast and how to work smart.

I bring this experience to any job I do, whether it's designing a newspaper or creating any project with paper, type and ink.
